Epsom & Ewell Borough Council has agreed major changes to the way in which its policy committees engage with members of the...
A meeting of Epsom & Ewell Borough Council on 17th July voted to allow additional clubs and pubs in the town centre to stay open until 1am even on weeknights, despite efforts from Liberal Democrat councillors to reduce the midweek closing time to midnight.
Liberal Democrat county councillors have handed in a petition with over 2,000 signatures calling for Surrey's Performing Arts Library to be retained. It follows a consultation held by Surrey County Council which outlined 3 options for the Library - closure, fragmentation of the service across other libraries or the service by being provided by another organisation. The Library, which is currently based near Dorking at Denbies Wine Estate, houses a unique collection of music, theatre, orchestral and dance materials available for public loan. Cllr David Goodwin, Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Communities, said today:
Surrey County Council has been ordered to pay £18,400 in compensation to the family of a severely autistic child after a highly critical report from the Local Government Ombudsman. The report criticised all aspects of the County Council's handling of the case, which concluded that there was fault by the County Council and that an injustice had taken place.
Liberal Democrat county councillors have expressed disappointment after Conservatives in Surrey voted to rubber stamp their unpopular cuts to Community Recycling Centres across the county.
Years of Conservative cuts have hollowed out the legal aid system, leaving millions without access to timely legal advice. Our new policy will legal aid a guaranteed right, ensure no one is left without help.
Millions of people are still trapped in England’s broken leasehold system. Our plan will end the leasehold rip-off, strengthen building safety, and give residents the control, fairness, and dignity they deserve in their own homes.
Hong Kongers living in the UK, and across the world, face an increasingly robust and alarming campaign of transnational repression from Beijing. Our new policy will protect pro-democracy activists and ensure this intimidation has no place in the UK.
