EVENTS: NOVEMBER TO DECEMBER 2023

With the current Tory government soon to be consigned to the same dustbin of history as Brexit and Covid, we surely have a once-in-a-lifetime reason to combine fun get-togethers with some serious, pre-election fund-raising.

The party's outstanding recent electoral successes, along with the dynamism and determination of our parliamentary candidate, Helen Maguire, make it difficult to imagine that the Epsom and Ewell Lib Dem party will ever have a better chance of capturing the constituency seat. But to run a winning campaign we need to raise the level of our activism - and to raise a lot of money in a short time.

So, please look through the following calendar of something-for-everybody events and make a note in your diary of any you can support. Some are obviously more costly than others, but some involve little or no expense. In any case, we do need to raise those campaign funds urgently.

We need a big, consistent turnout of members and friends. And remember, all events are open to all. You DON'T need to be a party member or declared supporter to attend. So, please invite your friends, if not your enemies!

The following calendar takes us up to the end of 2023, but we're already planning a very happy New Year and will be in touch again in the near future.

Please find an initial overview of THE REMAINING  events.

Below this you will find more detailed explanation of each event.

  1. QUIZ NIGHT- Saturday 4th November, 7.30pm - 10.00pm, Ewell Hall
  2. ANNUAL GENERAL FISH AND CHIP MEETING- Friday 17th November, 7.15pm - 9.00pm, Ewell Hall

Detailed guide to our (remaining) events this year:

 PINTS (or glasses/cups) and POLITICS- Wednesday 13th September, 7.30pm - 10.00pm

LET'S HEAR FROM YOU!- Monday 18th September 7:30 to 9pm

Your chance to ask questions and tell our councillors and prospective parliamentary candidate how you feel about the issues of the day. With the national party conference taking place at the end of this week, it's the ideal time to let your local representatives know how you would wish them to vote on items of policy that could be crucial to the Lib Dem manifesto for the next general election.

CONSTITUENCY FUNDRAISING DINNER- Friday 29th September, 7.00pm for 7.30pm

You are cordially invited to our second annual dinner of year! The last one in February was really to make up for two missed during the Covid years. This one is definitely to celebrate where we are now in 2023. The three course dinner (with vegetarian choice) will be held at Federation House in Leatherhead. There will also be a special guest speaker and an auction of very attractive, variously valued objects and leisure experiences.

TICKETS, will also include a welcome drink, wine and coffee, are priced at £69 each.

Where: Federation House, Highbury Drive, Leatherhead, KT22 7UY

 QUIZ NIGHT- Saturday 4th November, 7.30pm - 10.00pm

Just when the nights are drawing in and we need a bit of a warm up… come and give us some hot quiz answers! The annual QUIZ NIGHT, with questions set by Councillor Julie Morris, will be taking the same format as before, with various subject rounds and tables of six competing for prizes, either side of a bread, cheese, 'accessories' and dessert supper.

We'll provide the grub and the prizes, you just have to come along with as MANY FRIENDS as possible - they don't have to be registered Lib Dems or even LD supporters. Please bring your own bottles/beverages and some of that old-fashioned stuff called CASH for the raffle.

If you can form your own team, that's great. If not, don't worry, just book whatever number of tickets you require and we'll form teams on the night.

The venue is the same as last year, Ewell Hall. It's warm, clean, comfortable and central, with free on-street parking available. Who could want more?

Where: Ewell Hall, 7 London Rd, Ewell, Epsom KT17 2AY

Quiz participation: £15 per person to include supper. TICKETS AVAILABLE via this link

ANNUAL GENERAL FISH AND CHIP MEETING- Friday 17th November, 7.15 for 7:30pm - 9.00pm

Annual general meetings are not usually anticipated with great excitement or relish, but please get along to this one - it will be worth it! Tom Brake, Lib Dem MP for Carshalton and Wallington until the last general election and current Director of the cross party pressure group Unlock Democracy, will be our guest speaker and hopefully our new Honorary President. Please be there to vote him in on the night!

We'll do our best to minimise 'red tape' and maximise the opportunity for some social jollification. Vital business matters will have to be discussed and voted upon, but we aim to circulate relevant information and figures well beforehand for you to consider at your leisure. Hence, we should be able to get through business quickly, to allow time for a fish (or chicken) and chip supper, freshly delivered from the chippie across the road. Please BYO liquid accompaniment.

Attendance at the AGM, tea and coffee will of course be free of charge, but if you'd like to order a supper, please do so by buying a ticket at least two days in advance of the meeting.

Timings:

7:15 to 7:30 Welcome Drinks and snacks

7:30 to 8:30 Fish & Chips and formal AGM

8:30: Tom Brake

Where: Ewell Hall, 7 London Rd, Ewell, Epsom KT17 2AY

Fish and chip supper ticket: £15 AVAILABLE via this link

We look forward to seeing you at 1 or more of these exciting events.

Yours in socialising and fundraising, Ken Kimber (Social Secretary)
