Meet your Liberal Democrat Candidates for May's 2026 Elections
Epsom Town & Downs
Roy Deadman and Melissa Baynes
Roy is a local business owner of a construction company, he also worked for many years in print manufacturing and creative media sectors and a dedicated father of two girls. He’s deeply involved in the Epsom community and believes strongly in giving back. When he’s not working, you’ll often find Roy enjoying a drink at his local, walking on the Downs watching the horses or supporting local charities, as a co-founder and chairperson of Surrey Stands With Ukraine. Roy is proud to call Epsom home and is passionate about helping the town not just survive, but thrive. He’s focused on reducing anti-social behaviour, creating the right conditions for families to flourish and supporting local businesses to grow, invest and succeed
Melissa settled in Epsom twelve years ago to raise her family. Before putting down roots in the area, Melissa lived and worked across Britain, making factual TV for the BBC. With a strong background in research, she brings a thoughtful, evidence-led approach to the issues that matter most locally. She is especially passionate about improving access to better quality mental healthcare for children and young people and about strengthening a sense of community across all walks of Epsom life so everyone feels supported and heard. Most days, you’ll find Melissa in the market square browsing the flower stalls.
As the Liberal Democrat candidates for Epsom Town & Downs, Roy and Melissa both love living in Epsom and are proud to call it home. They are standing for election this May to fight for real change and to ensure Epsom, and East Surrey, truly thrives.
