Tennis for Free Coach Receives Award

Trophy for Jason
Harry Corben (r) from the Rotary Club of Epsom presented the trophy to Jason Barnett

Local resident Jason Barnett has received an Award as Most Supportive Team Manager at the Surrey Youth Games held earlier this year. Unfortunately, the trophy donated by the Rotary Club of Epsom was not available until recently, so the official presentation was delayed until September 4th.

As tennis was a new sport in the Surrey Youth Games for 2010, a new Team Manager was needed. After struggling to find a coach, Jason stepped up to the challenge! Jason started his tennis pathway when he took a trip with his daughter to Tennis for Free at Alexandra Recreation Ground in early 2009. The scheme is supported by Epsom & Ewell Borough Council and also runs at Court Rec..

Jason caught the tennis bug and attended every week and he has even gone on to gain his Tennis Level 1 Coaching Award.

Jason enthused all the tennis participants with his infectious personality and motivation. He delivered fantastic sessions in which he progressed all the participants involved. He was considered to be an amazing Team Manager on the day, providing support and motivation to all participants and was over the moon when one team won a bronze medal. In addition, he also demonstrated exceptional pride in his team and a great morale for the Games.
