RA refuse to debate County's Parking Charges

Two Conservative-led boroughs have already passed resolutions opposing the Conservative-led county council's policy of introducing on-street parking charges throughout Surrey. So when Liberal Democrat councillors put a similar resolution before Epsom & Ewell Borough Council, they expected support.

However, the RA-led council refused to debate the issue at their meeting on 15th February, preferring instead to defer it until 19th April, following preparation of a formal report and a discussion in one of their committees.

"This is a ridiculously long-winded approach", said Councillor Colin Taylor. "The motion merely needed councillors to vote for or against the principle of charging. By April it will be too late to affect the outcome. This is just the kind of bureaucratic approach our council is so rightly criticised for. It shows once again just how slow the RA are to gauge and react to public opinion."
